Taftsville Bridge Dismantled till 2014

About This Video/Blog:

I drive by this structure every day on the way to my real estate office in Woodstock and couldn’t resist digging up a video I created when Tropical Storm Irene came through. The flood was incredible so check out the photo and the water level in the video.

Taftsville Bridge Closed

It is sad to see what has become of the Taftsville Bridge and it will be 2014 before we see it again in all it’s glory. The photos below were taken just after the first of the year (January 13th 2012).  A mad dash has taken place to remove, store, and preserve half the bridge so the footings don’t take it all down river in the Spring time thaw.

Taftsville Covered Bridge

Missing Half the Taftsville Bridge

It is surprising to see how lack of access to a local bridge affects behavior. Road running has significantly declined along River Road, Quechee is far removed and poorly accessible, business at the Taftsville Country Store is negatively affected, and a general sadness occurs when most drive by this historic landmark.

For the next couple years we will continue to see a barren but stubborn bridge standing to the testament of rugged construction and equally rugged individualism. We look forward to better days for all in 2012 and the bridge in 2014.

Responsibility and native intelligence meet when Lance takes to the road (even when he is tired)! Watch Woodstock Realtor John Snyder gets plastered with a 500 lb snowball too!

Woodstock VT Wassail Weekend

About This Video/Blog:

The 2010 Woodstock VT Wassail Parade was a huge hit this year. There we about 30 entries and all the horses (and riders) were beautiful. The town was hopping and there were a few thousand people lining the streets and Town Green in Woodstock. The Green Mountain Horse Association – GMHA always does a great job pulling together a festive holiday parade for all of us. Retail sales were strong (up about 8%) and thankfully the weather was ideal. This traditional Woodstock event is a perfect start to the Holiday season. This event occurs just outside the Snyder Bassette Real Estate office in downtown Woodstock. After the parade come on upstairs and search the VT MLS for listings!

Bridgewater is ideally located between Woodstock and Killington and serves a broad demographic of residents and VT second home owners. Let us show you some Bridgewater real estate next time you are up in Vermont!
